Disposable wooden chopstick

In Japan, we can see disporsable wooden chopstick everywhere, for example, in fast food shop, convinient store, 100 yen shop and so on. Of course, we use it naturally as Japanese traditional culture.
Yesterday, I knew that 90 percent of the chopstick in Japan came from China. In short, Japanese chopstick destroys forest in China. I was surprised at the fact. Now, I worry about weather or not I should stop useing the chopstick.
Indeed, it is good for environment that all of us stop using and making it, but if only I stop using it, it is no meaning for good environment. Also, some people in China may live their living by the chopstick.
What do you think about this??

HAPPY NEW YEAR

I work my part-time job in Sukiya from New Year's Day to January 4th!! oh~~~~~~~!!

In Sukiya, there are some foods that are thrown away because of  making mistakes in ordering and cooking. A lot of employees eat the foods because they only want to eat Sukiya's delicious Gyudon and throwing food is waste of energy.

However, I don't eat the foods because I think the act lead to the increase of mistaking. It's my policy to improve my operation. Of course, some people blame me for the way of thinking.

Which is better, to eat or not to eat??

Animals in the wild

I recently use "Urazaka", which is the hill located in the south of Wakayama University, to commute to the university. In the hill, I see two wild cats every day. If I remenber right, they are fed by the people who belong to "Cat club". Indeed, the cats are easy to live now, but they will suffer from hunger in the near future if the students stop feeding.

I think it is nice for us to help animals and people. However, when we help them, it is important to do in the long time.

Water

Do you always feel the importance of water?? I think most of Japanese people may answer "No" because we can get water for nothing all over Japan.

I am one of the people too. I drink water and tea for free in school cafe and use much water to cook my dishes in my house every day. In addition, I get clean water from the supermarket near my house. I thought that it is good for my economy and health to receive the clean water. However, recently, I think it might be luxurious. That's because some of the people, especially, people in Africa, can't get water. They are suffering from hunger!!

Of course, I know that the people will not be helped if I change my actions, but I have a kind of feeling that I must do something eco-friendly in ethics. How do you think?? Should I stop receiving the clean water??

volunteers

I watched a TV program on last Saturday. The title is "Cool Japan". In this TV program, people always talk about the cool points in Japan.
In the last theme, they discussed about the volunteers in Japan. There are a lot of Japanese volunteers. For example, Japanese people often pick up litter in the street. However, I heard that foreigners didn't do so, and that only the goverments clean their street. Therefore, the streets in foreign countries are dirty. That is a problem.
I learned that it is important for each of citizens to think about the environment in their town.

Breakfast

Today's my breakfast is ''Tamagokakegohan'' with natto. This is a easy dish. We can cook it only to put a raw egg and soy sauce on rice.

Eggs come from Hiroshima, soy sauce from Chiba, natto from Tochigi and rice from Hokkaido. In short, all of them come from Japan. Therefore, foodmiles are very low.

If we eat the foods that come from Japan everyday, will the environment in our earth get better??

McDonald's

I studied about fast foods in ''environmental ethics'' class, so I would like to talk about that.

Today, I went to McDonald's with my friend. McDonald's is fast food. I would like to tell you about the bad points of fast foods that I actually experienced today.

First, McDonald's use a lot of packages. I ordered two bigmacs and  one applepie. Each of them has packages. Also, papercups are used for all of drinks. It's so waste.

Second, hamburgers are high calories. I heard from my friend that bigmac has over 500 kcal, so I ate over 1000 kcal at dinner. It is bad for my health.

Third, the foods of McDonald's come from various countries. For example, meats come from Australia or America. Foodmile is so long and carbon is emited so much to bring the foods from overseas countries to Japan. It's not environmentally-friendly.

Finally, there are a lot of bad points like these. Therefore, why don't you refrain from eating fast foods.
